Testimonial

"Hi there, I just wanted to email you to say thanks for my necklace, as a birthday present I didn't know what quite to expect, BUT, it is much better than I ever anticipated and have received several comments on it (even the first hour I had it on!) I am so pleased to have this 'everlasting' print of my baby boys finger and wearing it so close to my heart! I have passed your details onto several friends, who I hope get in touch to get their very own special casting made too. Many many thanks to you again, and I will definitely be using you again for any other children we have."

Fingerprint Jewellery FAQs

Please feel free to contact us if your questions are not answered below.

Q. How does the Fingerprint Jewellery ordering process work?

A. We send you a fingerprint jewellery impression kit for each child with your order personalisation form via 1st class mail. You take your fingerprint impressions using the very easy, non-toxic, putty impression kit. It just takes minutes. If you don't like the print, simply re-roll and try again. You then fill in the names, date of birth and your choice of wording (lowercase or uppercase hand-engraved text or hand-stamped text) and any other requirements and return the order form with the jewellery impressions in the reply paid envelope. Finished fingerprint jewellery is sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery (Recorded for individual charms), within 7-12 days of receiving the completed impressions back. This time will extend during busy periods such as Christmas and Father's Day or if there has been a bank holiday. Read our Fingerprint Jewellery Process for more info. Suitable for babies from 4 months. For babies under 4 months or with no fingerprint lines we can make handprint or footprint jewellery instead - See our Hand/Footprint Jewellery.

Q. Will I see my child's print clearly?

A. It does depend on the size of the child's finger, their age and the depth of lines on their finger. The shallower the lines the less defined the print may be. But even with few lines or undefined ones you still get a nice finger-shaped imprint. If we receive a print that has no lines, we will contact you before proceeding. If the lines are feint and the child is under 18 months we assume you are happy for us to go ahead. You must let us know if this is not the case. The best prints are a nice oval shape taken from the flat pad of the finger not the tip and are the same depth throughout. We assume you are happy with what you send in unless you tell us otherwise.

Q. How old does my child have to be?

A. We can do a print at any age though the smaller the finger the less defined the print may be and we recommend waiting until a baby is older than 4 months if you really want to see lines. As for upper age, there is none. We can do any age for all sorts of occasions - christenings, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries or other special events.

Q. How easy is the impression to take at home?

A. It is very simple and easy.  You simple roll two balls of a plasticene-like substance together in your fingers for 1 minute. You do not need to measure out anything or mix powder with water. Full instructions with photos are included witht the impression kit. If you are not happy with your print, you simply, re-roll and try again. But please be assured that if we receive your print and it has no lines or is not suitable for casting from we will contact you before going ahead. If we have to re-issue kits due to anything else but the impression material failing, there will be a small fee to cover the cost of the kit and postage (£5.99).

Q. I love my print and want to get another - do I need to do another impression?

A. If you are happy for us to use the mould we already have then no you don't need to do it again. If the personalisation is different to the original order you must tell us at the time of re-ordering otherwise we will assume you want it the same. But we do have customers who come back a year or so later and they want a new, more-defined print of their child then and so a new mould would be required in that case.

Q. How do I tell you want lettering I want on each jewellery piece?

A. When you receive your impression kit(s) you will also receive an order personalisation form. The form will already have your purchased items listed. All you need to do is fill out the rest of the form to let us know the type of lettering and the name or message for each piece. This works well if you buy jewellery as a gift but want the recipient to be able to fill in the lettering style and wording. Or if you just can't make up your mind at the time of ordering!

Q. How long can the messages and names be?

A. We use hand-stamped or hand-written lettering in uppercase or lowercase so you have lots of choice. What lettering will fit is dependent on fingerprint size, jewellery piece size and letter width. For instance "William" (7 letters) and "Tommy" (5 letters) would take up about the same amount of room. You are looking at a limit of about 7-8 characters on most of the Classic and Chunky necklace/keyring/medium charm pieces. For the classic and chunky bracelet charms and cufflinks, about 5-6 hand-written letters or hand-stamped initials. Hand-written lettering can be adjusted to fit quite a bit, less so with the hand-stamped. Let us know what you want and if we cannot fit it on we will contact you. Nicknames, abbreviations or initials are a good alternative.

Q. What's the difference between sterling silver and solid silver?

A. Solid silver is 99.9% pure. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure and is more commonly use for chains and findings as it is a harder metal than pure silver. Our silver jewellery is handmade from pure silver with sterling silver chains, bracelets, cufflink backs and keyrings.

Q. Will my piece be hallmarked?

A. We no longer offer a hallmarking service.

Q. How will the finished pieces be sent?

A. The finished jewellery items are sent in a stylish box by Royal Mail's Special Delivery service. This ensures insurance for up to £500 and next day delivery by 1pm. Individual charms will be sent via Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded delivery.

Q. When will I receive my pieces?

A. Your pieces should normally be sent out by Royal Mail's Special Delivery Next Day service 7-12 days after the completed impressions and personalisation details are returned to us. Individual charms will be sent via Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded delivery. During busier times or postal strikes this time may increase. If you have a special date that you need an item for, please let us know when you place your order. If you have a deadline, please check that we have received your prints in time for it.

Q. How natural is the fingerprint impression kit?

A. The impression kit comprises two clays that must be thoroughly mixed together. Once the impression is made the mould t is left to harden over a few hours. It is a completely safe and non-toxic process.

Q. Will my charms be soldered?

A. Only the rings for standard necklace charms are soldered as they can be taken off the chain easily. All other charms are not soldered so that they can be removed, if desired. The rings we use are very strong and should be opened with pliers - use a twisting action rather than pulling the ring apart. Also, the 2 and 3 descending charms necklaces have a special strong jump ring that is not soldered. Please let us know, if you want them to be soldered. There is a charge of £2 per charm for this service.
